From June 30 to November 4, 2018, the Musée Paul Valéry, will be offering an exhibition-event entitled ” Peinture et Poésie, pleins feux sur les collections – Les peintres vus par les poètes ” comparing 250 works from the museum’s collection with poems created for the occasion by French and international poets.
During the 120 days of the exhibition, 120 events will be organized on a stage in the heart of the museum, each day in the afternoon.
Of the 800 works in the collection, which spans the period from the 17th century to the present day, only 250 had to be selected.
The choice is vast.
Hence the exhibition’s subtitle, ” From Courbet, Marquet, Dufy… to Desonyer, Combas, Di Rosa, Viallat…”.
Works that had not been exhibited for decades had to be restored for the occasion.
Poets from all over the world – Mediterranean, South American and North American (Quebec), as well as French – were asked to create a poem for each work, expressing their feelings and their vision, and opening up a new horizon for each painting . All the info on the museum website
