Foundation, donations and legacies

Created in 1865 by the Protestant community of Sète, the Lazaret is managed by an association under the French law of 1901, whose aim is to develop social and family tourism.
We welcome groups, sessions, families and individuals all year round.
An oratory is available for debates, conferences, screenings and religious celebrations.
The land is owned by the Fondation du Protestantisme, enabling you to make a donation or bequest while benefiting from tax incentives.

Like all foundations recognized as being of public interest, the Foundation enables its donors to benefit from two specific tax provisions: any payment made to the Foundation leads to the issue of a tax receipt enabling :

  • Or a reduction in personal income tax equal to 66% of the donation, up to a limit of 20% of taxable income.
(For donations made by companies, the corporate tax reduction is equal to 60% of the payment, up to a limit of 5 per thousand of the company’s sales excluding tax),
  • Or a deduction from the amount due for wealth tax, equal to 75% of the cash donation, up to a limit of €50,000 per year.

Created in 1865, it owes its name to the “Pointe du Lazaret”.

Le Lazaret owes its name to the “Pointe du Lazaret”, where the Protestant parish of Sète and Pastor Lucien Benoit created a sea bathing establishment in 1865.
France’s first family home, the Lazaret welcomes families, groups, schoolchildren, seminars and people from all walks of life, in a climate of freedom that encourages encounters and personal fulfillment.
Le Lazaret enjoys a strong reputation among many families, some of whom have been loyal guests for over 80 years.

With a 150-year history, Le Lazaret holds numerous quality labels, including the Chouette Nature label, testifying to its daily, concrete actions in favor of the environment.

Because of its history, its environmental quality and its location in the heart of the city, this immense property is now protected under the guardianship of an individualized foundation, itself attached to the Fondation du Protestantisme.

Construction and renovation

  • Thanks to donations and legacies, the central body of the New Lazaretto (Gabian, Petrel and Cormorant) was built, a simple first floor.
For several years, bathers were welcomed in both locations.
  • Until 1900, two new buildings were added: “L’Albatros”, built in 1896 on two levels, and “Les Mouettes” in 1902.
  • Between 1923 and 1924, the Lazaret continued to expand, with the purchase of the “Martinet”, a plot of land on which the “Gulls” are located, and the construction of the “Lark” building.
  • In 1929, in the midst of a great deal of construction work, the subway leading to the beach was created, a major asset for the Lazaret.
  • Between 1934 and 1938, further expansion took place with the purchase of the “Frégate” and the construction of the “Flamants” building.
  • In 1979 and 1992, the Lazaret built the current “Gulls” building and renovated two of the first four buildings, Albatross and Petrel.
